Aggregate processing
Aggregate are a collection of inert materials, such as sand, stone chips, pebbles, gravel,rock basalt,etc.which in kinds of mixed compound (such as concrete, asphalt) plays the role of skeleton and filler. Divided by the particle size of aggregate ,there are coarse aggregate and fine aggregate. General provisions by particle size:greater than 4.75 mm is coarse aggregate, such as gravel and pebbles, the particle size less than 4.75 mm is fine aggregate, such as sand, stone chips.According to the source,there are natural aggregate and artificial aggregate. Natural aggregate is formed naturally without artificial processing,such as ,river sand,river gravel, sea gravel (sea pebbles), mountain sand, mountain pebbles,etc. Artificial aggregate is man-made,such as crushed gravel ,artificial sand, and shattered slag,etc.
In general, natural sand and gravel are mostly round, which’s surface area are small while artificially produced gravel is angular, with a larger surface area. Therefore, the artificial production of aggregates can be better combined with cement, asphalt and other materials to produce high quality concrete. Meanwhile, the artificial aggregate owns uniform particle size, and could be produced to different specifications according to needs, which the natural stone in terms of quality can not achieve. And in the high quality requirements of concrete projects, the sand and gravel used are mostly produced through mechanical processing.
Therefore, a large amount of aggregate, especially the larger particle size gravel, is mainly obtained through the way of mechanical processing , using crusher machine and screening machine .
